Middletown, NJ— At 6:00pm on Wednesday, October 1st the switch was thrown to bring New Jersey its own brand new full power VHF television station, WJLP-DT Channel 3. WJLP is licensed to Middletown, NJ and will broadcast from 4 Times Square in Manhattan reaching over 20 million people in the New York City Television Market. WJLP is available over the air on channel 3.10 and will have full satellite and cable distribution in early 2015. WJLP is owned and operated by PMCM TV, LLC based in Wall Township, NJ. The station will be affiliated with the “Me-TV” Network.
PMCM TV Chairman, Jules L. Plangere, Jr. said “We are extremely pleased to bring this much needed local TV service on Channel 3 to New Jersey and the entire New York City television market. Providing a high level of local TV service to all of New Jersey has been a goal of mine since the 1980s.” Mr. Plangere went on to say that WJLP, together with its sister station, KJWP Wilmington, DE, which covers all of Southern New Jersey from its transmitter site in Philadelphia, will accomplish that goal. “We look forward to serving the needs of all our constituents in both markets by providing great local content, community affairs, news, and an array of wonderful wholesome nostalgic broadcasting.”
PMCM TV CEO Robert McAllan, said we are thrilled to have realized the dream of former US Senator, Bill Bradley and his successor, Frank Lautenberg, to bring high quality, locally oriented programming on a VHF channel to New Jersey. Mr. McAllan continues, “Affiliating with Me-TV was an easy decision. We are a local family–owned company. In programming the stations, we were looking for shows that a parent or grandparent can watch with their children or grandchildren and not be embarrassed by the content or language. Me-TV, with a full lineup of classic, memorable shows like Gilligan’s Island, Mary Tyler Moore, Perry Mason and Star Trek, fits perfectly with our strategy of how best to serve the communities in which we live and work.” In addition to airing Me-TV programming, WJLP plans to air locally produced newsbreaks, public affairs and other community oriented programming complementing the family friendly content of Me-TV.
PMCM TV, LLC is a privately help company whose broadcasting roots go back to 1947 when it’s predecessor became the first broadcaster to put an FM station on the air in New Jersey. KJWP Channel 2 is licensed to Wilmington, Delaware and began broadcasting over the air on channel 2 on November 19, 2013. WJLP’s call letters were chosen to honor the company’s chairman, Jules L. Plangere, Jr., who is the former publisher and board chair of the Asbury Park Press and Home News Tribune (amongst several other broadcasting properties). Over the years PMCM TV’s affiliated companies have owned and operated multiple TV and radio stations in the New York, Philadelphia and Orlando FL markets including NJ101.5.
